Customer Reviews
First Off, the photo shown for this item is incorrect, and they haven't updated it for the two months after I emailed the product manager with the correct photo... Must be nice to be a product manager at Amazon... no oversight for accuracy of images.
That said, after google searching this part number I was able to come up with the actual image of the part, which looked exactly what I needed for my '97 Jeep Wrangler (TJ), which has a 3" suspension lift, plus 2" in lift from larger tires, and uses a 2" receiver hole which is centered on my 4" tall rear bumper. So, that makes my "offset" from stock about 5" in lift and another 4" for the higher receiver location over the stock tow setup (this means nothing to non-wrangler owners, other than to remind you to consider all issues when trying to figure out what amount of drop you might need).
As a side note, the Hidden Hitch website didn't even list this model, so it may be disco'd by now, or perhaps it was so new that they didn't update their website yet.
Keep in mind that the height measurement is based upon the distance from the top of the 2" ball to the ground, while on a flat surface. Rule of thumb for commonly used personal trailers is 18", but can easily vary a few inches in either direction based upon the trailer model and the amount of weight (or lack thereof) being towed. The lowest setting works well for my new 5x8 utility trailer when unladen, where as the next setting up works better with 1000lbs of toys and camp gear when on the way to the desert.
The length of the ball mount is great, in that it moves the hitch far enough away from the back of my Jeep to clear my 33" spare tire (which is mounted on a 3" extender, which pushes it three inches out and three inches up from the stock mounting location).
Adjustments are quick, just requiring the pulling of the cotter pins and their cross bolts, sliding the adjustable mount up or down, then re-attaching the bolts and pins. As a bonus, the pins can be replaced with the long shackle hitch locks available from Master Lock and American Lock (try and get matching key for your hitch lock!). This will prevent your un-attended trailer from being easily stolen via removing the adjustable portion of the mount.
For the price, this mount can't be beat!
There really wasn't any packaging when it was delivered today, unless you call throwing the hitch ball mount into a box packaging?
When I opened the box the hitch ball mount looked used, that's because the paint was all beat up.....I should have sent it back but I needed it now so I just repainted it and called it good.
